Update on Social Media and FERPA

In December, the registrar offered some additional clarification of FERPA as applied to social media. In response, I updated my post on the topic. The main change I noted is that if students choose to post their coursework online publicly with their name and UWEC affiliation included, that is not a FERPA violation because the student has chosen to do so. (This is assuming the coursework does not include personal information like addresses, grades, coursework, etc.) The key is that educators should make sure the students understand they are not required to post their coursework publicly and they offer options and alternatives.
